Agenda 2030 – how NIMO works towards the global goals
We constantly strive to reduce our environmental impact and develop the business to support the global shift towards sustainability. We offer sustainable products and manage energy resources efficiently in the production process. During 2024, we have chosen to focus on five different goals from Agenda 2030.
One of NIMO's main focus areas is sustainable energy. We work actively to reduce our energy footprint and develop energy-efficient products and systems, work efficiently in our production to utilize resources, and use leftover wood chips to generate heat in production.
- NIMO constantly strives to reduce environmental impact and develop new ways to contribute to the global transition. We want to offer sustainable products that last by making the right material choices and creating energy-saving solutions and functions that promote sustainable behavior with benefits for both the user and the environment. To reduce the impact of our products on the environment, it is important that they have a long life and as low energy consumption as possible. We, therefore, offer spare parts for our products and have an exchange system where you can exchange the heat pump in the drying cabinet. When it's time for maintenance, the customer automatically receives information and a replacement unit, so they don't have to be left without a dryer during the service period, says Catarina Granqvist, head of sustainability at NIMO.
For companies, the global goals have entailed extensive restructuring work to contribute to a greener planet. This year we have chosen five goals from Agenda 2030 to focus on. In 2025, we will choose new ones.
Sustainable energy
Goal 7 and goal 13 are important because they deal with two of the most urgent and challenging global issues we face today - to combat climate change and ensure access to sustainable energy for all. We work towards these goals by, among other things, developing energy-efficient products with low consumption and energy efficiency improvements, optimizing our measuring room with, among other things, changing the hanging technique in the measuring room, changing all lighting to LED, etc. We also use electricity from fossil-free and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower.
More circular processes
Goal 12 is about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, which we are working towards by improving the environmental performance of water, energy, and waste. We use resources sustainably and economically beneficially and create sustainable innovations and product efficiency.
- We want to be involved and contribute to a sustainable society. The products we develop, build, and sell are designed to maintain the strength and longevity of textiles - to protect the environment and reduce consumption in society, says Catarina.
NIMO wants to be involved and contribute to a sustainable future and works actively to utilize the company's resources and minimize waste. We work to minimize excess sheet metal in the manufacture of our products. The excess from the plate is recycled, just like other spills and waste. Continuous evaluations are carried out to ensure quality assurance that the work follows the plan.
Working conditions and equality
Equality between women and men, goal 5, is a prerequisite for sustainable and peaceful development. We work actively to promote diversity and inclusion by, among other things, having clear policies against discrimination and having ongoing follow-ups regarding equality for employees via &frankly and personal conversations. &frankly is an employee feedback platform that helps us collect and analyze opinions and insights from our employees. By using &frankly, we can create an open communication channel where colleagues can share their views, ideas, and concerns with management and each other.
- We know that our employees are the single most important factor for NIMO's long-term success. Therefore, we constantly strive to create a work environment where all employees can perform to the best of their abilities, for example through joint activities and goals, as well as our value base IHOP (Innovative, Sustainable, Caring, Reliable). We also impose these requirements on our suppliers. NIMO also has clear policies against discrimination to promote diversity and an inclusive workplace, explains Catarina.
Working environment and human rights
Decent working conditions, goal 8, is a fundamental condition for sustainable economic growth and is a positive force for our planet. Protecting workers' rights is essential, and it is high time to eradicate modern slavery, human trafficking, and child labor once and for all. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy against slavery, trafficking, and child labor, and respect labour law (ILO convention).
By creating an environment that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, while ensuring decent working conditions for all, sustainable economic growth is promoted that benefits society as a whole. We focus on the working environment, health promotion measures, and safety, while integrating user ergonomics and product safety in our product development – including third-party certifications.
